Daily Narrative The first half of the day was spent packing and shipping all of the things that had fit in the Bus that won't fit in the Beetle and retrieving the Bus from the body shop. After tucking the Bus away in the shop on Brian's grandfather's old farm, cousin John gave us a lift to the VW dealership in Portland where the Beetle was being detailed and having the "nose mask" put on. After a final checklist familiarizing us with doo-dads and whatcha-ma-callits we took possession of our new ride and rocketed towards Seattle to stay with Brian's closest old buddy of the trip, Mike, and his family. I am going share something that I am sure is obvious to the rest of you. The speed potential of a turbo Beetle is ridiculously greater than that of a 1977 VW Bus. Just wanted to share that. As teachers, we don't speed. Where safety reigns people gain. We arrived in Seattle minutes after leaving Portland. No, just kidding, it took a few hours. Mike and Glenda, ever the gracious hosts, fed us, let us play with their children, and stayed up late to visit. We were sad that we were not able to get to Mike and Glenda's earlier, stay longer, and interfere with their routines a little more. We intend to do all of these things on our next visit. A little before midnight we let them go to bed.
