Daily Didactic
Our last day in D.C. began at our "home away from home", Cherry Hill Park. It's a busy RV Park in serious tourist country, which is certainly a little strange, but we'd come to call it home. We left behind wireless internet and high end showers, and hit "The Beltway". This is a chunk of road, like the name implies, that encircles the D.C. area. It is like an enormous rotary, and just about as pleasant to drive on. It shifts between eight and ten lanes and there is no way we understand it well enough or move fast enough not to aggravate local drivers. We did eventually find our way off of it, onto highway 50 toward Annapolis. At Annapolis, the road becomes the extraordinarily long Bay Bridge over the Chesapeake Bay (not, however, to be confused with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Virginia) and from there the road thankfully continues to narrow until, around where you cross into Delaware, it is a good little country road again.

We drove across Delaware, which was about a thirty minute proposition, and got in line to catch the Lewes-Cape May Ferry across the Delaware Bay to New Jersey. They had a nicely restored Tall Ship on display at the terminal, which helped kill the hour wait until we drove onto the ferry. It was a pleasant, but very rocky, ride. The weather was perfect for jellyfish and porpoise spotting and we did pretty good at both. Once we hit the Jersey shore, we angled northwest through a lot of little, old, high test tourist towns until we came to rest for the evening at the Parvin State Park.
