Daily Didactic

The day began, as some days do, with a strong urge to get out of bed. This morning it was at the inconvenient time of 6:30. Too late to sleep more, too early to be warm outside our palatial tent. At 7:00, one of us decided to begin an uncharacteristically early morning. Theresa joined him.
We dressed warmly, ate breakfast , and prepared for our anticipated hike on the Dinosaur Stomping Grounds trail (aka Mega Steps). Brian, being a big fan of all things dinosaur, was very excited. We actually got on the road by 9:00. Nonsense.
This trail is outside of Canyonlands, about 40 minutes, and then about seven miles north. We couldn’t find the trailhead in Apple Maps, but we had an old school paper map Theresa had the wisdom to secure. Unfortunately for both of us, she was driving and Brian was manning the paper. He navigated down a colorful and very rough road of BLM dispersed camping until we realized (by asking Google Maps) that we had turned off the main road a mile or two early. We also realized that our lost time had put us in the position of hiking a trail with no shade into an increasingly hot day. We pivoted.
Reversing course, we drove the fifteen or so miles into Moab and spent the next few hours eating second breakfast, doing art (Theresa), and updating this website (Brian). Following this adaptation, we secured water, ice, and gasoline and drove back home for some afternoon camp leisure.
An hour or so into our leisure, and feeling the need to get some exercise for the day, we took a couple of shorter hikes nearby, eventually heading to the visitor center to check in with the internet. Comfortable the world wasn’t substantially worse than yesterday (we know, arguable), we returned home for some tasty camp dinner, some low brow television, and a blustery night. Life is grand.

Where we slept last night.
