Daily Didactic

To continue a week of repeats, we revisited our breakfast spot from our second day, El Local. A lovely tucked away courtyard in the shade with more excellent food. The lovely ladies that run the place could not get over the fact that Theresa had painted a potted plant there the other morning. They asked many, many questions in Spanish. We wish we spoke Spanish. It’s a goal. Theresa continued to try too order anything other than an iced green matcha latte, to no avail. She loved it anyway.
We promised ourselves years ago on a European trip that we would start extended days in towns with walking tours. The dilemma here is deciding which one, and not ending up in a parade of 30 tourists following a local down a two foot wide sidewalk. We considered a local guide, spent too much time on the internet, and then just decided to give ourselves a self guided tour. Very scenic (but not very informative), our tour wound us around Antigua from church to church. We also wore shorts, which generally are a no-go in churches. Weakly planned and poorly executed, it was nonetheless a beautiful walk. Highlights actually turned out to be an unexpected art show in a local municipal building and a gelato stop.
This afternoon we reversed roles and Theresa napped while Brian enjoyed an afternoon of digital problem solving on the terrace. In the evening, we dined in on pasta and “imported” spaghetti sauce (Classico) and ventured to the restaurant across the street for a glass of wine before calling it a productive day.

Where we slept last night.
