Daily Didactic

Our day started bright and early at 8am, with a few bowls of granola and the stated goal of walking the 30 minutes to Santo Domingo de la Cerro Cultural Park. It is reputed to have art, views, and cocktails. Some folks on the internet say it is a “must see” and that is good enough for us. We followed the Google Maps walking route and increasingly ventured into a neighborhood of Antigua outside of the center. It was beautiful and vibrant, and we noticed that we seemed like the only tourists. This makes some people nervous, but generally makes us happy. After a 30 minute walk, Google Maps literally lead us to the end of a dirt path at the bottom of a ledge in a wooded area. Super incorrect. We returned the way we came. After a little additional research and we found that not only was our walk unnecessary, but there was a free shuttle a few feet from our AirBnB every hour.
Not ones to take the easy way out, we retreated to downtown for some lunch at Antigua brewing (we’ve also lost count) and back to our AirBnB for some “heat of the day” hanging out. Punting the cultural park to later, we chilled in our pad until venturing out for a surprisingly good and cheap Guatemalan Mexican dinner at Mr. Taco in a nearby hostel and then calling it another slow travel day success.

Where we slept last night.
